Oliver: Tough Guy
I wanted to let everyone know that Oliver was found to have an infection in his right lower leg bone (tibia) called osteomyelitis. He was admitted to Mpls Children's Hospital on Wednesday morning and just got out today. He was treated with antibiotics intravenously and was able to be discharged on antibiotics by mouth (some need IV antibiotics for six weeks). Also thankfully he did not need any surgery and he has not had any pain for about 4 days. He is a strong and healthy kid, so responded well to treatment. He will not be able to play any sports or run around with his friends for at least 5 weeks which will be really tough for him, especially that he just made the Minor A baseball team and soccer season has officially started. We are hopeful he will make a full and uncomplicated recovery and will be able to get back to being the active kid that makes him so happy. He will continue to follow with Infectious disease and Orthopedic specialists. As characteristic of him, that smile you see above persists through the challenging times!
