Zebulun

On November 9, 10, and 11th, JACK played the role of Zebulun (one of the 12 sons of Jacob) in the Maple Grove Junior High production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." The musical was indeed amazing. Jack, with no acting experience whatsoever (apart from trying to play innocent on many occasions) did a great job with a funny role - which included singing and dancing. And wearing stage make-up. We have a videotape of the entire musical (if anyone is ever interested), which tells the story of Genesis, Chapter 37. Here we see the costumed JACK and his adoring fans. Question: what are some other plum roles for this young thespian? What famous actor does JACK most remind you of? Way to go, JACK.

UCLA Student Gets Tazered

This isn't exactly a fun video to watch, but I want to make sure people see it.

It's a video caught on a cameraphone of a UCLA student being tasered for not presenting an ID to security officers for being in the library after 11pm.

A girl in one of my classes wrote an excellent editorial in the Minnesota Daily about it. http://www.mndaily.com/articles/2006/11/22/70013

I hope you all get a chance to watch the video (which is pretty disturbing, I'll warn you ahead of time) and read the article.

Great Perky New Turkey Day Recipe!

Hopefully this will reach you all in the nick of time so that you can slightly alter the way you prepare your traditional Thanksgivings Day bird. You can prepare the stuffing your usual way. This recipe works for almost any bird, but the effects will result in the most natural and pleasing outcome if you use a turkey. It definitely will not work for a Tofurkey, and should probably NOT be prepared as a commercial offering in Target stores.

Ingredients:
1 whole chicken or turkey
1 large lemon, cut into halves
sprig of rosemary
salt and pepper to taste
butter or olive oil, whichever you prefer
Heat oven to 350 degrees

Rub butter or oil over the skin of the chicken/turkey until it is completely coated.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper and any other seasonings you prefer.

Take a knife and gently separate the skin from the breast meat.

Slide lemon halves under the skin with the peel side up, one on each side. This way the juice from the lemon will release into the breasts.
Place sprig of rosemary into the chicken/turkey.
Cover and bake for 30-45 minutes. Remove cover and continue to roast until juices run clear, basting every 15-20 minutes.

If you've followed these steps correctly, your chicken/turkey should look like the one in the picture below.

Bon Appetit and Happy Thanksgivings Day from the northwoods!

Administration

Hokay, so. Joe and Catherine are in. James and Laurie are in. Christian is in - and prolly Holly. All of you are now administrators, which means that you can invite others to partake. I've also invited Kathy, Andrew, Jack, Mary Ellen, Mike, and the 'rents - but haven't heard from any of them yet. Not sure if this idea will work for those with web tv. Oh: Emily's in. Here's Jack doing his best Leon Russell impression. And I'll prolly wear the shirt, but I'm fat and the shirt is Emily's and she's small. So that should be a good look on me.

Anybody out there?

Joe, Catherine, and Emily had an intriguing idea: start a family blog site (like the one used for the 50th anniversary planning) so we can all keep in touch with the latest stuff. Lots of which has been happening lately. So you're invited, and TAG - you're IT. What's going on? And does Annie have an e-mail address? Joey T? Owan? Skylar? Molly? Isaac?

Welcome to the new blog

Hey, campers. Back by popular demand, I've set up a new blog to help keep the family connected. Please feel free to post news, jokes, discussion questions, humerous anecdotes, political cartoons, poetry, movie reviews, quotes, educational articles, movie clips, baby pictures, theatrical scores, entries from the phone book, advertisements, photoshopped images, suggestions for what to do this weekend, recipes, blueprints for particularly skyscrape-y skyscrapers, doodles, telephone messages, pictures of cute puppies, favorite colors in alphabetical order, academic essays, song lyrics, collages and maps. But nothing else.
