Birthday Bash

It is hard to believe that three years have passed since Sam made his debut into our lives on February 8th, 2005. Like the two before it, this has been an amazing year full of noteworthy happenings:

  • The blossoming of a quirky personality

o he loves make up goofy sayings, which generate laughs – like, “avocado in the gado”

  • A keen and quick mind that soaks up everything that he is exposed to

o He recognizes many letters, can say the alphabet, and count to 15. He knows his birthday is in February.

  • A fierce independence and increasingly stubborn will

o He insists on doing everything for himself – from dressing to turning on lights

  • Sam’s ability to find equal amounts of joy and pleasure in everyday happenings and special occasions

Christmas had barely passed when Sam started talking about having a “Bob the Builder Birthday Party.” He helped pick out the invitations, cake, decorations, and goodie bags. He was so excited about his party; it was the topic of conversation for days before and days after the party. We were happy that so many of our family and friends were able to join in the celebration. He also loved being thought of by those who could not attend in person. Thanks for helping to make it a special day.

The kids had a blast playing at the Maple Maze. What a difference a year makes; this year Sam climbed straight to the top of the two-story play structure, whereas last year he played it safe by hanging out in the toddler ball pit. It was fun to see Jim and Bill Koski scale the maze to rescue friends who decided to climb no further (or slide down). A big shout of thanks to Pete, Kathy and Mimi for standing sentry in the party room and allowing the rest of us to play unencumbered.

We say farewell to the terribly terrific twos and eagerly anticipate all the firsts to come during the tremendous (and hopefully not tumultuous) threes.

Happy Birthday Sam!
